Green clay mask powder
Green clay mask powder, also known as illite, is an organic material comprised of a host of essential minerals, iron oxides, and decomposed plant material such as kelp and seaweed. Depending on the proportion of minerals contained in it, it can have shades from sand to grey-green. This is one of the most strongly acting clays.
Properties of green clay mask powder
It has highly absorbent, cleansing and astringent properties. It has a disinfectant, bactericidal, regenerating and remineralizing effect. This clay owes its properties to many macro and microelements. This clay is rich in silicon, aluminium, potassium, manganese and iron ions.
Due to its intense action, green clay is recommended mainly for oily, acne, and mixed skincare. Perfectly cleanses, closes pores, and helps to fight against imperfections, challenging to remove blackheads and impurities of the epidermis. This clay purifies the skin of toxins and excess sebum mates and relieves inflammation. Strong antiseptic and antibacterial properties of green clay slow down the multiplication of bacteria and prevent infecting the epidermis. In turn, it results in a decrease in acne complaints. This clay cares for, cleanses, disinfects and mates, making the skin smooth, radiant and refreshed.
Green clay as an ingredient in face and body masks
Mix a small amount of green clay with a tablespoon of still mineral water or hydrolat to get an effective mask that caresses and cleanses the face and body.
It is highly recommended to add cosmetic oils to the clay mask, preventing it from drying out and irritating the skin. Remember that all clays have a strong astringent effect by absorbing excess moisture and sebum from the epidermis. If you are not a fan of solid skin tightening kind of feeling, apply your clay masks during bathing or put on the face a warm, damp towel that will prevent the clay from drying out quickly. Leave it for about 15 minutes, and green clay is best washed off with lukewarm water or removed with a sponge.
Green clay for hair
Due to their antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, all clays are excellent support in treating scalp conditions such as dandruff and any irritation, eczema.
Apply a clay mask directly to the scalp, not to the whole hair. This clay has moisture-absorbing properties, which can make the tips of hair dry.
You can also mix clay with a portion of shampoo. Remember that the mask of green clay needs to be rinsed very thoroughly, and then apply conditioner or smoothing lotion to avoid having stiff and dull hair.
